The Still Index collects field notes, audio, writing, and other observational pieces based on everyday environments and other shared public spaces.

It is created by a small team of neurodivergent people who spend a lot of time navigating these same kinds of environments. The work comes directly from lived experience of sensory overload, overstimulation, and the effort of staying oriented in busy public settings.

Everyday environments shape attention more than they are often acknowledged. For neurodivergent people, small details in these spaces can become amplified, making ordinary places feel intense or difficult to process. This site focuses on those details as they appear in real time, including sound, movement, repetition, light, and shifting patterns of activity.

The field notes gathered here do not interpret or simplify these experiences. They record them as they are, in different forms including audio and writing.

The aim of the site is to offer clearer ways of noticing and describing everyday environments, and to build a growing collection of how these spaces are experienced from different perspectives.
